Take your pizza on a European vacation by swapping out greasy pepperoni and sausage for protein packed, savoury canned tuna. While it sounds "out there" for many Americans, this tuna, onion, roasted red pepper, and optional olive and corn topped pie is an enduringly popular pizza choice in much of Europe for good reason!
Preheat oven to 450ºF with a pizza stone or steel in place or preheat pizza oven according to manufacturer's instructions.
Either prepare a peel or half sheet pan by scattering cornmeal over it. Set this aside.
Stretch your pizza dough to a rough circle about 14-inches in diameter. Lay this on top of the cornmeal. Shake the peel or pan to make sure the dough can move.
Spread the pizza sauce to within 1/2-inch or so of the edges. Scatter the mozzarella over the sauce followed by the onion and red pepper strips. Shake the peel or pan once again to make sure the dough is still mobile. If it isn't, carefully lift the stuck section and sprinkle more cornmeal underneath. Shake again to confirm it moves.
Flake the tuna into large chunks over the top of the pizza. Sprinkle the oregano over the top evenly. If you're using the olives and corn, scatter them evenly over the top as well.
To Bake Tuna Pizza in the Oven
Slide the pizza onto the stone or place the pan on the middle rack of the oven, as you prefer. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust it is done to your liking.
Transfer the pizza to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
To Cook the Pizza in a Pizza Oven:
Use the peel to transfer the pizza to the pizza oven.
Bake your pizza, turning every 15 to 30 seconds, until it reaches your desired doneness, or about 2 to 5 minutes, depending on your pizza oven's heat.
Transfer the pizza to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
